Common Antiseptic Ingredients are Disruptive to Your Vital Mitochondria!

We have been saying to our customers that substances found in many of the conventional cleaners are quite harmful to humans and animals. As the article points out, quaternary ammonium salts (QUATS) are in many products like lotions, soaps, shampoos, toothpastes, mouthwash, nasal spray, intravaginal sponges, fabric softener, and Rx eye drops. How often and how much of any or all of these products might you be exposed to in your home office or in commercial or industrial operations? And what about pet care products? Chances are that they are so many of the products people use everyday.

“We performed a high-throughput screen of 1,600 antiseptics, additives, and drugs, and found that, of the numerous structural classes of compounds included in the screen, the QUATS were the most mitochondrially toxic class, both in terms of inhibition of ATP synthesis and mitochondrial O2 consumption,” researchers wrote.
